The Smartphone Made for the Way We Communicate Today, the Galaxy S9 and S9+
Award-winning Galaxy S9+ tops all smartphone cameras with highest score from DxOMark
RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ – MARCH 16, 2018 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced that the new, award-winning Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, which have been recognized by smartphone reviewers worldwide for their best-in-class display, design and camera, are now available for purchase at U.S. wireless network providers and retail stores. The phones come in three colors: Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and the new Lilac Purple. The Galaxy S9 has a suggested retail price of $719.99, while the Galaxy S9+ is available for $839.99. Both unlocked and carrier versions of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are also available for purchase on Samsung.com.
“The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are designed for the visual and social generation—the consumers who connect, communicate, and share their stories through pictures and video,” said Tim Baxter, President and Chief Executive Officer at Samsung Electronics North America. “Samsung leveraged its long history of innovation to reimagine the smartphone camera so that users can not only take the best pictures in any light and any environment, but also express themselves in their own unique way.”
Camera Reimagined
Built for the ways we increasingly communicate and express ourselves with images, videos and emojis, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ feature Samsung’s most advanced smartphone camera, and come with a Dual Aperture[1] (F1.5 – F2.4) that works just like the human eye to adjust to different lighting conditions. In addition, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ capture up to 12 versions of the same photo to create an optimal image with high contrast, and less noise and grain. In fact, DxOMark awarded the Galaxy S9+ its highest-ever score for a mobile camera.
In addition, the Galaxy S9 and S9+’s Super Slow-mo captures footage at 960 frames per second—so a video that lasts for 0.2 seconds can be slowed down to six seconds—making everyday moments, epic. And with automatic Motion Detection, it’s easy to capture even the quickest moments, as Super Slow-mo will start recording the instant there’s movement in the frame. With AR Emoji, users can turn a 2D selfie into a dynamic 3D avatar and choose from preloaded colorful characters or create one that looks just like them. The personalized AR Emojis are also automatically turned into 18 animated GIFs, which can be sent and shared via any app that supports the format.
With the Galaxy S9 and S9+ camera, consumers have a new way to engage with the world around them through Samsung’s intelligence platform, Bixby[2]. Built with deep learning technology, Bixby adds numerous smart functions to the camera, including instant translation of text from one language to another, ability to recognize food and overlay approximate calorie count, and information about nearby landmarks and places. With Bixby, users can even identify products they are looking at, and instantly purchase them from a growing list of retailers.
Immersive Entertainment
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ feature an enhanced entertainment experience with powerful stereo speakers tuned by AKG and the brightest Super AMOLED Infinity Display on a Galaxy device. With premium sound and a stunning screen, it’s easier than ever for users to immerse themselves in their favorite content.
Connected Ecosystem
Both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ support the new SmartThings app. The app provides a single, unified destination for consumers to monitor and control their compatible connected Samsung and non-Samsung devices—so managing a connected lifestyle can be as easy as flipping a switch.
Galaxy Foundation
With the Galaxy S9 and S9+, essential consumer-favorite features come standard—like IP68 water and dust resistance, expandable memory, fast and wireless charging and a headphone jack[3]. In addition, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ support the fastest network speeds, including gigabit LTE up to 1.2 Gbps, giving users the best call quality and data speeds available on their network today.
Samsung Premium Care
With the purchase of a new Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ on Samsung.com, owners are eligible for a free month of Samsung Premium Care—the only support program that comes to you at your home, office or favorite coffee shop. The service also includes damage protection, an extended warranty and quick turnaround service or a replacement device.
In addition, Samsung recently announced an expansion of its in-person support for mobile devices with the addition of more than 300 Samsung Care authorized uBreakiFix service locations across the country. By early 2019, Samsung and uBreakiFix plan to add nearly 200 more Samsung Care authorized service locations in the U.S.

Fully integrated: 50th Audi R8 LMS GT4 produced at Böllinger Höfe
In close vicinity to the Neckarsulm location, the 50th Audi R8 LMS GT4 was driven out of the assembly hall at “Audi Böllinger Höfe” in Heilbronn in mid-March. The GT4 model is a worldwide sales success and, like no other race car at Audi, benefits from synergies in terms of its technical concept and production in the flexible, low-volume manufacturing operation. Since deliveries began on December 15, 2017, Audi Sport customer racing has produced 50 race cars and further orders are on hand.
The driverless transportation system moves a race car amidst the high-performance models for consumers through the special low-volume R8 manufacturing operation. What looks like an arranged photo subject is daily manufacturing routine at Audi Sport. The GT4 race car is actually produced at the same facility as the production version and passes through the same 15 cycles, from the body shop to the inspection station. There the same employees that approve the quality of the production model are responsible for quality inspection of the race car as well. Both versions share some 60 percent of their components. The kinship in the chassis and the powertrain areas is particularly close. The 5.2-liter V10 engine and the S tronic 7-speed double-clutch transmission of both models are near-identical.
In terms of its chassis the race car benefits from the excellent genes of the road-approved car as well. 79 percent of the multi-material Audi Space Frame (ASF) consists of aluminum and 13 percent of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) which results in both high strength and light weight. For racing, it is provided with specific additional equipment for safety and service such as the steel roll cage or the air jack. The employees install these systems in the pre-production operation prior to cycling the car into the assembly line. The production model and the racing version pass through the same painting process as well. The GT4 receives its special Florett Silver color in the Edition paint shop.
“We take pride in this achievement of being able to build the race car in such close combination with the production model,” says Wolfgang Schanz, Head of Production Audi Sport GmbH. “This yields maximum synergies for the entire Audi Sport brand.” Currently, one Audi R8 LMS GT4 is driven out of the assembly halls per day. Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing: “Our customers directly benefit from these advantages. We offer the ready-to-race model at a price below 200,000 euros. In return, the teams receive a new race car in premium quality, as the one-two class win of the Audi R8 LMS GT4 by customer team Phoenix Racing in the 24-hour race in Dubai in January proved.”

Audi, Italdesign and Airbus combine self-driving car and passenger drone
At the Geneva Autosalon from 8 to 18 March, Audi, Italdesign and Airbus are presenting “Pop.Up Next”, an entirely electric, fully automatic concept for horizontal and vertical mobility. In the distant future this vehicle could transport people in cities quickly and conveniently on the road and in the air, at the same time solving traffic problems. The dominant interior feature is a 49-inch screen, while interaction between humans and the machine is performed by speech and face recognition, eye-tracking and a touch function.
The ultra-light, two-seater passenger cabin can be attached either to a car module or to a flight module. Audi is supporting the project with know-how on battery technology and automation.
“Creativity is needed where new mobility concepts for cities and people’s diverse needs are concerned. Italdesign is an incubator for innovative technologies and radical prototyping. Pop.Up Next is an ambitious vision that could permanently change our urban life in the future,” says Dr. Bernd Martens, Audi Board Member for Procurement and President of Italdesign.
Italdesign develops future-oriented vehicle concepts for Audi and customers around the globe. Jörg Astalosch, CEO of Italdesign, says: “Various players will define the rules of urban mobility in the future. We are proud to collaborate with Airbus, the leading company in the aerospace industry, to investigate solutions for future mobility.” Astalosch sees Pop.Up Next as a flexible on-demand concept that could open up mobility in the third dimension to people in cities. Italdesign is making use of a network of cities, universities and various stakeholders in order to better anticipate the future of mobility in cities.A first version of Pop.Up already had its premiere at the Geneva Autosalon a year ago.
